New Age Marketing

Monday, 15 December 2008 00:28 by admin

Through the ages, there had been many types of marketing.  This included direct marketing, tele-marketing and the lot.  As the times advanced, the modes of marketing also took new forms.  The direct marketing of the 19th century is entirely different from that of the 20th.  The marketing strategies of tomorrow would also be much different from the marketing of today.  The latest and perhaps the most advanced form of marketing is online marketing, which includes pay per click which was first introduced by Google (www.google.com).  The main objective of any marketing campaign is to attract the maximum number of visitors.  Internet marketing or online marketing involves the optimization if web-pages and other online content so that various search engines like Google, Yahoo! (www.search.yahoo.com), Ask (www.ask.com) etc. can rate the web-site better and provide a better search position. The process is search engine optimization.  Basically, a search engine optimizer rephrases the content of a web-page such that the page attains a higher ranking in the search result.  In short, search engine optimization is the future of marketing.

BreezeGo offers these services for Search Engine Optimization in order to increase your website’s traffic, leading to more sales for your company.  For more info visit www.breezegoseo.com.

Good Practices for Giving Titles to HTML Pages.

Friday, 14 November 2008 06:24 by admin
       1.  Accurately describe the contents of the page.  The title of the page, should, by itself communicate the contents of the page.  This not only   boosts the quality of the search results, but also gives the impression that your site is more reliable.

      2.  Avoid the practice of choosing a title that has no relation whatsoever with the contents of the page.  This may boost up page ranking but lowers the credibility of your webpage.  Also, avoid the default titles like “Untitled” or “New Page 1”.

      3.  Creating unique tags for each page is a must!  This helps the search engine to know that each page is different.  This greatly influences page rankings.

      4.  Avoid using a single tag across all the pages of your website.  Also, avoid the same over a large group of pages.

      5.  The titles should be brief and descriptive.  Titles can be short and informative.  The issue with long titles is that most search engines tend to display only a portion of the titles

      6.  Avoid, as stated earlier, extremely lengthy titles that are unhelpful to the users.

      7.  Avoid stuffing unwanted keywords in your title tags.

Preparing a web site for search engines

Thursday, 13 November 2008 05:36 by admin

Optimizing a web site for search engines is a simple job! But, it involves a few steps, which if followed properly, makes a web site hot property on the internet. Below are some simple steps for making a web site search-engine-friendly are being listed.

                   1. Make a good website – a useful one!

People tend to spend huge amounts of money and time for designing and creating websites. But, fact is that most end up with lousy, poorly designed and badly authored websites. The site needs to have content that people intended to find. This should be presented in an appealing format. The page should be friendly and the site should, in addition to being “people friendly”, be “search-engine” friendly.

                   2. Go for key-phrases and not key-words

Using keywords and improving the ranking of a website is something similar to the old needle and the hay-stack story. Concentrating on key-phrases, on the other hand, changes things a lot. Instead of a single word, concentrating on whole sentences is similar to several keywords working together and effectively.

                   3.  The <TITLE> Tag

A common mistake that people generally make is that they make a TITLE tag, extremely friendly for people who visit the site, but unfriendly for search engines. What’s the point in having a people friendly title, if no one is ever going to visit? So, optimizing the TITLE tag is very important. The first and the foremost point is to make sure that most of the keywords, or the complete key phrase, is present in the TITLE tag, but it should make sense.

                   4.  The <META> Tags

META tags play a great role in improving the ranking of websites. On most of the search engines, the page title is truncated and the META tag gets displayed. Google does not pay attention to META tags now, but they may change tomorrow. Google, as for now, is king, but remember that there were other search engines ‘alive’ a few years back. So, there are all chances for a new search engines to trash Google. Also, there are still search engines that look into the META tags. Keep the description within 200 – 400 words and the keyword or the key phrase must not repeat much. Otherwise, the website may identify itself as spam.

                  5.  The beginning paragraph

It is important that the keywords and the key phrases appear more than once.  However, if it is too much, the search engine might think its spam and the site will lose the ranking altogether. The advisable limit would be around 10 or 12 keywords per page. But, it should never go beyond 14.

                  6.  Other useful points

a. Note that some search engines list your site if and only if the site is registered as a domain. That is, free domains are not listed. E.g. www.mysite.com gets listed whereas www.mysite.freesite.com does not qualify.

b. There is a common misconception that a URL with a lot of keywords in it draws more results and attains a higher rank. This is not at all the truth. No major search engines rate your site based on the keyword presence in the address.

c. It is better to avoid tricks like repeating the keywords in the background color repeatedly, putting key phrases in comments (/*……*/) etc.

d. Try to get maximum links to your website as many search engines nowadays rank the popularity by looking into the number of link-ins

e. Avoiding flash is better. The search engines cannot look inside the flash content. Rating automatically comes down.

f. Try to avoid HTML errors on your pages. The presence of HTML errors can make the site appear in ways other than intended and this adversely affects the popularity of the site

g. Now, if the site gets traffic, manage and use it. The users who visit the site should be provided with the apt information, neatl presented

The need for Search Engine Optimization

Thursday, 13 November 2008 05:27 by admin

The need for continued maintenance and optimization regarding your online marketing is critical to the growth of your business as it relates to the web. If this maintenance is done regularly, your website can expect to perform successfully among the different search engines. Otherwise, there is every chance your website ranking will erode over time.

Every day, the number of browsers hitting the internet is on the rise and at a substantial rate. As a result, the number of websites is also increasing rapidly. The result has been tremendous pressure on the various search engines to continually adjust their algorithms which is key to determining the results a user will receive after conducting a search. Companies like Google and Yahoo conduct regular research to find new mechanisms to provide for better websites that are original and informative in their search results. This has led to an increased need in the work most online marketing companies must put forth to assure the best results for their clients. You should expect the right company to be at the forefront of these changes. Partnering with the right company can be a key tool for your continued success as it relates to the web.

Things to Avoid When Designing a Website

Friday, 24 October 2008 07:59 by admin

The following issues generally arise while hosting or designing a web site, therefore, should be avoided.

  •     Confusing design – A good web design should be clear, transparent and easy to use.

  •    Pop up messages – We can avoid them to the maximum. The good web designer should stay away from pop-ups.

  •     Poor load time – Loading your web site with content is good, but overloading it with unwanted images, animations etc. is not and hence is better avoided.

  •     Over use of Java – Java takes a long time to load and also is the nightmare of a ‘malnourished’ PC.

  •    Poor use of HTML tables – Optimize the tables to give enough space to the content. The border, color fills and the font matters.

  •     Spelling/Grammar mistakes – Web designers and content developers should take special care to avoid spelling and grammar mistakes in the content.

  •     Poor organization – The content on the website should not be confusing or cluttered. In other words, the site should be neat, tidy and presentable.

  •     Inconsistent page design – When a page is being designed, stick to one design for all the pages. Consistency matters!

  •     No contact information – Be sure to provide the contact details of the company and of course the web designer.

  •    No 'about us' page – People will need to know more about the company. An ‘about us’ page is mandatory.

  •     No privacy policy – Every website should have an explicit privacy policy. The viewers should know whether their identity would be exposed.

  •    Different backgrounds on each page – Similar to the page design consistency, the background color or image should be the same throughout the web site.

  •     Poor content – This one drives the viewers away. Poor content is equivalent to no website at all.

  •     Poor navigation – People should be able to move about on the website quite easily.

  •     Over powering music set to auto play – This one not only overloads the web page, but is rather irritating also.

  •     Broken HTML code links and graphics – When a web designer promises content on a web site, provide it. People might be looking for it!

  •     Poor browser compatibility – The best website is cross platform and browser compatible.

  •     Large slow loading graphics – Avoid it!

  •     Too many graphics – Again, this not only makes navigation difficult, but also irritates the viewer and slows down the page load rate.

  •     Large Welcome banners – Welcome banners are a must, but keep it small and welcome.

  •     Flashing banners – This greatly affects the readability and aesthetic appeal of the pages. Use them wisely.

  •     Pages scrolling to oblivion – Make it short, innovative and simple.

  •     Multiple colored text – Colored text can be used to stress a point or to denote something. A word of caution though: Don’t over-do it.

  •     Multiple use of animated graphics – This again should be used only at a minimal level.

  •     Text difficult to read – Make the text legible. The font should have the right size, color, font, character spacing etc.

  •     Animated bullets – Avoid them!

  •     No Meta tags – The presence of Meta tags make the site more searchable and retrievable than web sites which do not have Meta tags.

  •     Too many graphic and/or line dividers – Line dividers have to be simple. There is no point in overloading it.

  •     Multiple use of different fonts – As said earlier, regarding the design of a page, the font should be consistent too. Use different fonts only if needed.

  •     Under construction signs – People hate it! So, avoid it!!

  •     Busy, distracting backgrounds – The background should support the content, not suppress it.

  •     Scrolling text in the status bar – Good for the kiddy kind of websites. For professional pages, this is a strict no-no.

  •     Multiple banners and buttons – This distracts the viewer. This negatively affects the impression that the viewer has about the web site. The site fails!

  •     Large scrolling text across the page – This again distracts the viewer. Page impression goes down and makes the whole web design process pointless.

  •     Poor use of HTML code frames – Like the wise people say, “If you don’t know how to use it, don’t use it”

  •     Large fonts – Stick to a fixed font size, which is neither too small not too big. Headings fonts need not be too big either.

  •     Poor use of mouse over effect – You can add sounds, font effects etc. as mouse over effects. But, the real question is – does the context demand it?

An SEO expert helps to strategically improve the search engine placement of a website with the desired keywords by using innovative and widely accepted search engine optimization techniques. What is Search Engine Optimization?

Tuesday, 21 October 2008 07:21 by admin

Wikipedia defines Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, as “The process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from a search engine via ‘natural’ search results. As a site is presented earlier in the search results or as it attains a high “rank”, more searchers tend to visit that site. However, using SEO can also target different kinds of searches, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. SEO is nowadays being used as an internet marketing strategy. Optimizing a website for maximum performance of higher ranks involves modifications from the grass-root level. The HTML code of the website is edited, as the primary step. This is to improve the content as wells as to increase the relevance to a specific keyword of your choice. This removes the barrier for the indexing activities of search engines. At times, a site’s structure – its relationship with the content – will have to be edited too.  Due to these simple reasons, it would always be good for a client to incorporate SEO when a website is being developed, rather than trying to incorporate and apply it on a later date.
